The most practical time to apply these STCs is during a normal TBO overhaul. STCs were originally engineered to allow these models of O-320 engines to burn 100 octane fuel. These STCs are not offered to suggest a significant performance increase.

ENGINE AND AIRFRAME AUTHORIZATION STC
STC - Engine Horsepower Increase Authorization:
Allows increasing from 150-hp to 160-hp using the existing 150-hp Lycoming O-320 engine. Involves cylinder, piston, wrist pin, and carburetor, and re-pitch of propeller - all of which must be purchased separately. Piper application will also require a fuel pump. Requires purchase of second STC below which allows for installation of the same engine once the 160-hp changes have been implemented.

STC - Airframe Engine Installation Authorization:
Allows installation of a 160-hp Lycoming engine
in applicable airplane which was originally manufactured having a 150-hp engine. The 160-hp engine can be either a 150-hp engine set up to produce 160-hp per the above engine STC, or the installation may involve installing a specific model 160-hp Lycoming originally manufactured to deliver 160-hp. STC includes needed drawings and placards. STC involves applying applicable placards, using 100-octane fuel, and flying per the STC-issued flight manual supplement which should be kept in the airplane.

These kits (choose Kit A or B) allow you to increase from 150-hp to 160-hp using the existing 150 hp Lycoming O-320-E2A, -E2D and, -E3D engine.
Involves installation of pistons, wrist pins, and ring sets. Both kits include carburetor. Kit A includes new cylinder assemblies, while Kit B uses your existing cylinders and replaces existing pistons, pins and ring sets.
No changes to crankcase are required. Engine and airframe STC documentation are included.
