Pre-oiling with a Pressure Pot
is the preferred method.
When a Pressure Pot is not available,
follow this alternate method.
Engines - IO-520 & TSIO-520
• Prop hazard- remain clear of Propeller
• Prepare Airplane
- In Place
and Fuel - Off
- Installed with Propeller
Pump - Remove
Plugs - Remove Top Row
fill engine (10 Quarts )
• Oil Filter Adapter
cavity next to filter stud with engine oil. (

propeller by Hand - 1/3 rd revolution opposite normal

Filter - Install and Safety
- Prepare for motoring engineFill

• Establish Oil Pressure Indication
Switch - On
Throttle and Fuel - Off
- Engage [No more than 30 seconds with 3 minute cool
Gauge - Watch for first needle flicker indicating movement.
Switch - Off
engine for normal start.
in service, bleeding the oil line from the engine to
the oil pressure gauge at the fitting will help the
gauge show real time pressure much quicker. While running
the engine, have an assistant catch the residual oil
in a cup at the gauge end. Dispose of properly.
